Czech lands and Israel. The culture, faith, destinies of the people of these two countries are connected by a line of common stories and destinies, images for more than one millennium. Neither anti-Semitism, nor Nazi nationalism, nor the communist regime could destroy the mysterious bond between the Czech and Jewish nations. Thanks to many brave people, the two nations continue to share history, values and destinies. Some of the bonds and stories, the historical events that the book Mysterious Bond brings, are notoriously known, such as the fate of the writer Kafka, the story of the Golem or the dark chapter of World War II.
However, the author of the texts, diplomat Robert Řehák, together with students of the Didactic Illustration Studio of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen under Renáta Fučíková, tried to bring to light little-known or unknown evidences and examples of connections, such as old Czech written commentaries in Hebrew religious writings, the inspiration of Charles IV in the construction of the New City in Jerusalem or the inspiration of Theodor Herzel by the Old-New Synagogue in the creation of the name Tel Aviv. The content of the book further develops the theme of the exhibition "Mysterious Bond" created by the Faculty and the Embassy of Israel on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and Israel in 1990.
