Wednesday, 22 April 2020 14:11

In the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery it would have been possible to visit the unique exhibition "Zdeněk Fránek: Figures" by April 11. However, the exhibition and all cultural events were hit by a coronavirus pandemic, which left the exhibition behind closed doors. That is why Jan Van Woensel, the curator of the exhibition, decided to talk with the leading Czech architect Fránek about his work and to give you a closer look at the concept of his work. The exhibition can be viewed virtually in the video here.

Zdeněk Fránek (°1961) is one of the leading architects in the Czech Republic. Internationally, he has an impressive resumé of realized projects that are at the same time cutting-edge, intelligent and joyful. Since 2019, Zdeněk Fránek holds the position of teacher in architecture
at Sutnarka. This interview with curator Jan Van Woensel offers insight in his relationship with nature, architecture as a form of co-creation, and the future.

..."Architecture should be created hand in hand with nature. It should be designed as a part of nature. We shouldn't apply only aesthetics but also ethics. However, not because of an ideology but in a natural, essential way. Architects have to be co-creators of the world, co-creators of nature. They create housing for the dominant species of our planet!"
